Google Nexus 9 LTE Android 5.1.1 LMY48M firmware build comes with security fixes and user interface improvements. There are no major changes added with this new build, but you should be getting an improved Lollipop OS.
Installing a factory image file for an Android device can be done to remove all the files stored in it or as an upgrading tool. If you want to use the LMY48M firmware as an upgrade you can do it only over the LMY48I stock Android 5.1.1 build and only this particular version.

÷ Prerequisites:
•Use this post only with the Google Nexus 9 LTE devices.
– do not try to update any other tablets with the files that you will find in this post.
– your tablet should be the ‘volantisg’ model.
• Installing a ‘factory image’ in your device will remove all the files from the system and internal storage.
– you can avoid the whole factory reset process only if your tablet sports a 100% stock Android firmware build number LMY48I.
– more info on how to avoid the ‘factory reset’ can be found under the tutorial part of this post.
•If your tablet runs on a modified ROM, then you can’t avoid the factory reset process.
•Root will not survive the installation of a factory image.
•Make sure that the USB Debugging option is enabled under the Developer Options.
– if you can’t find the Developer Options menu, then you will have to un-hide it first:
go to Settings> About Device and tap the Build Number section seven times consecutively.
return to Settings, scroll down and open the Developer Options menu.
– find USB Debugging option and enable it.
•This is a guide that you should use only if you are an advanced user.

•Check the battery charge level of your tablet, make sure that it is over 50%, it will prevent the device from powering off during installation.

÷ How to install Android 5.1.1 LMY48M Factory Image for Google Nexus 9 LTE:
If your Nexus 9 device currently runs on the Android 5.1.1 LMY48I build and it hasn’t been modified in any way, then you can choose to update to LMY48M without losing any data in the process.
Here’s how to avoid the ‘factory reset’:
open the flash-all.bat script in a file editing tool after you’ve downloaded and extracted the Factory image files.look for the -w characters and delete them.
– that’s the command triggering the ‘factory reset process.save changes and continue to the next step.
If you’ve modified your tablet’s ROM in any way, then the changes above won’t work and the ‘factory reset’ process has to be applied if you want your Nexus 9 to boot with Android 5.1.1 LMY48M.
Now you need to setup the Android SDK for your computer.
Download Android SDK.
Install it on your computer.
– make sure to remember the location of the installation folder.next, find the SDK Manager exe and launch it.confirm that you wish to download and install all SDK packages and drivers.locate the platform-tools folder and leave it opened.
– that is where you will need to place the factory image files.install the Google USB Drivers on your PC in case your tablet is not detected by your computer.
Since you’ve completed all the steps above you can begin the installation of Android 5.1.1 for your tablet.
1- Download Android 5.1.1 LMY48M Factory Image archive from here.
2- Extract the contents in the factory image archive. Place all the files in the ‘platform-tools‘ folder.
3- Switch off your Nexus 9.
4- Now boot it in Fastboot Mode.
– leave the tablet in Fastboot/ Bootloader mode.
5- Next, connect it to your PC via USB cable.
– verify that the device was detected by the computer.
– if the tablet is not recognized you can try to re-install the usb drivers.
6- You can now start the installation of the factory image.
Double click on the flash-all.batscript. Confirm all the changes.
7- After the update is done you can see a confirmation alert shown on your PC.
8- Press any key to reboot the Nexus 9 in normal mode.
9- You can unplug the device from computer after the reboot has started.

10- Use your usual Google account in order to regain complete control over your tablet once again.
