How To Root Moto G4 on Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow.
Once you have TWRP 3.0.2 custom recovery installed on your Moto G4, you can use this guide to root it with SuperSU.

Backup important files stored on your device before proceeding with the steps below, so that in case something goes wrong you’ll have backup of all your important files.
÷ How to Root Moto G4 on Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow :
Step 1 – Download SuperSU Root (SuperSU-beta.zip) for Moto G4 to your computer.
Step 2 – Connect your Moto G4 to your computer using the USB cable.
Step 3 – Now copy/paste the downloaded SuperSU-beta.zip file to your internal storage. Make sure the file is in the internal storage root (not in any folder).
Step 4 – Then turn OFF your phone and disconnect from the USB cable.
Step 5 – Now to get in the Recovery Mode (TWRP Recovery). Switch ON the phone while pressing and holding Volume Down + Power buttons together.
Step 6 – You need to create a new file. You can do this by tapping on Advanced in TWRP and then clicking Terminal. Then just write the following command manually:
Step 7 – Once finished, tap on the ‘Install’ button from the list, choose the ZIP file that you copied to your phone memory in Step 3.
Step 8 – Confirm installation on the next screen by swiping on the “Swipe to Confirm Flash” option. The installation procedure should start now.
Step 9 – Once the installation is completed.
Step 10 – You can now reboot your phone by selecting the “Reboot System” button.
That’s it. Your Moto G4 has now been rooted on Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow with SuperSU package. Check for the SuperSU app in your apps list to verify.
