The steps from below are currently compatible only with the CRR-L09 model of the Huawei Mate S; so, don’t use this step by step guide in any other condition as you can end up in damaging your Lollipop featured smartphone.
÷ How to Root and Install TWRP Recovery on Huawei Mate S
•Install TWRP Recovery
1- On your computer install Android SDK – flash Android SDK on Windows or set up ADB on MAC OS X / Linux.
2- On your phone access Developer Options and from there check the “OEM Unlock” option.
3- Download from here the TWRP Recovery file and save it on your computer; preferable on desktop.
4- Rename the recovery .img file into something easier to remember – like: mates-twrp.img.
5- Connect your Huawei Mate S with your computer by using the USB cable.
6- On the folder where you have placed the TWRP recovery file open a command prompt window: press and hold Shift keyboard key while right clicking on any blank space.
7- In the cmd window, first type: “adb reboot bootloader”. Now your smartphone will be automatically rebooted into fastboot mode.
8- Then type “fastboot devices” – if your phone isn’t listed, reinstall its USB drivers before retrying the steps from above.
9- Next, in the same cmd window, type: “fastboot flash recovery mates-twrp.img”.
10- Wait while the flashing process is completed.
11- When done, unplug the USB cord and reboot your phone.
•Gain Root Access
1- Download the root exploit from this page and place it on desktop.
2- Connect your smartphone with your computer via USB cable.
3- Transfer the root file on your phone and when done, unplug the USB cord.
4- Turn off your device.Enter recovery mode on your Huawei Mate S.From recovery select Install and pick the root file.
5- Resume the flashing process.
6- When done, from main menu of recovery tap on “reboot system now”.If a boot loop is issued, go back to recovery and select “wipe data factory reset” and “wipe cache partition”.
Good job; now your Huawei Mate S should be rooted and installed with TWRP recovery. Thus, your Android device is now prepared for further customization and optimization options.
